Now that summer has passed its time to reflect on what we've all been up to over the last few months. The district Explorers and their leaders have had an action packed time undertaking activities within their units, the district and nationally.
The European Jamboree was a great opportunity to experience Scouting with a real international flavour. With more than 8,000 Scouts and Guides from 65 countries around the world all in one place the atmosphere was amazing. Everyone had a brilliant time and took part in masses of activities. The evenings saw live entertainment and socialising amongst a buzz of people meeting, greeting and making new friends. Language, background and religion didn't pose any barriers, there was a real feeling of community and friendship. I certainly had a great time!
Brownsea re-loaded took us back to the place where scouting began 98 years ago. 160 Scouts and Guides with more than 60 leaders came together from all across the globe for the 48 hour experience on Brownsea Island. With water, land and activities used at the original Scout camp everyone really enjoyed themselves.
Our district trip to Wye Valley saw Romsey Explorers head back to Biblins. This was the site used last summer and one which has been used by members of Romsey district since before I started Scouting! The site is ideally situated on the banks of the river, at the base of the Wye Valley. Sixteen Explorers and 12 leaders enjoyed a sunny long weekend of activities.
We climbed on Yatt Rock, canoed in the white water of the Wye and mountain biked up and down the valley. Not to mention the high ropes course and hike to the view point with spectacular views across the valley to the buzzard nests. Well... some of us made it that far!!
