At the end of July, the 21st Explorer Unit spent six days in Sutton Coldfield as guests of the 1st Sutton Sea Scouts where ESL Jon Sims did his Scouting. The Leaders in Sutton gave us a fantastic welcome.
We were hardly off the bus before they had us afloat; sailing, rowing and canoeing on Powell?s Pool in Sutton Park. We stayed in the HQ from where we could walk round the lakes and woods of the park and over to Wyndley Swimming Pool with its diving boards (everybody went off the 5 metre!).
On the Monday, we took the train into Birmingham where we explored the exciting new developments in the city centre, took a canal boat trip from Gas Street Basin and bankrupted Pizza Hut on their ?All you can eat for a Fiver? buffet. The record was taken by Alex Harding on 13 slices! Then we hit the shops before returning to a wide game in Sutton with the local Explorers followed by a Barbecue for those who were still hungry.
We came home on the Wednesday via Bourneville and Cadbury World ?..probably the best day of my life? said Alex Robson through a gob full of chocolate. Next year, the Sutton Explorers are visiting us. Hope we can show them as good a time as we had.
